Jim Hardy, CEO

Jim Hardy is known industry-wide as an authority on film restoration and conversion – and as an advocate for “clients first.” Jim’s corporate leadership over the past decade has helped earn Illuminate Hollywood a reputation for technical and artistic excellence throughout the film and television community in Hollywood and worldwide.

Jim’s passion for film began as a teenager growing up in Utica, New York. “I would sit there watching the credits at the end. I knew I needed to be a part of this business.” A move to Los Angeles offered opportunities to learn every aspect of the business, from tape operations to colorist to management. He worked on “Risky Business,” “Cheers,” “Topper,” a slew of Ronald Reagan films and several Roger Corman classics. “There’s nothing like recreating the original vision of a great director or cinematographer so that our children can discover the work of Frank Capra, George Lucas or Steven Spielberg. the way it was meant to see. We continue to create new products and technologies that advance the industry and augment our clients’ revenue goals,” says Jim. He has on his target short-list the best of classic TV series and films by leading directors whose works can further stand the test of time with the Illuminate Hollywood team’s help. Jim has guided Illuminate Hollywood’s relationships with major studios for whom the company has worked on such extraordinary films as “American Graffiti,” “The Good, Bad and Ugly,” “Cleopatra,” “Scarface,” “Back to the Future,” “Boomerang,” “Man on a Tightrope, “and many others.

Steven R. Wiener, Executive Chairman

Steven R. Wiener is illuminate Hollywood’s founder and visionary leader. From advanced film restoration to digital finishing, 3D conversion and production, he is the driving force for advanced technical innovation and artistry – keystone qualities that have made the company the global leader in digital media and entertainment technology services.

Steven’s leadership has earned illuminate Hollywood client loyalty throughout the film and television community in Hollywood and worldwide. He oversees the company’s ongoing expansion and product offerings and serves as the driver for aggressive strategic growth and development. Steven manages the company’s two divisions: Illuminate Hollywood, which focuses on restoration of the industry’s greatest films and television series, iConform, and Illuminate Hollywood3D.

A 24-year veteran of entertainment and technology markets, Steve brings vast technical knowledge, and strong business acumen. He has a particular expertise in conceptualizing and conceiving and delivering new technical enhancements that improve the quality, speed and, oftentimes, the cost of a wide variety of production and post-production functions.

Prior to founding Illuminate, Steve was instrumental in the design, construction and operation of several leading post facilities. He not only designed and built some of the first telecine suites in Hollywood but also broke new ground with the innovative strategy of offering the first high-definition satellite transmission at SAT Corporation.

Sandy Crawford, Executive Vice President and General Manager

An eighteen-year veteran with illuminate and the company’s first official employee, Sandy Crawford is an instrumental member of the executive team, thanks to her tireless work ethic, deep loyalty and persistent focus on results.

Sandy has been an invaluable part of the company since its inception and is responsible for overseeing company operations, as well as for developing and implementing internal policies and procedures, plus client relations, recruitment, personnel and communications initiatives. A native Angeleno, Sandy supports several organizations in her local community including Providence St. Joseph’s Hospital, Mattel Children’s Hospital and FixNation, an organization for homeless animals.

Steve Tannen, Executive VP, Sales

Steve Tannen has been a force within the Post Production business for the past 20 years. Previously the Sr. VP of Sales for 4Media (4MC), Digital Image and Ascent Media’s Studio Services / Media Divisions since their inceptions, he successfully led them into the business world of High Definition and DVD authoring.

With deep ties and roots in the Independent Film world, Steve has provided skillful project management to the brightest and most talented of the upcoming filmmakers in the past 2 decades helping them realize their creative vision by guiding them through the complex issues and choices in the post production arena.

Steve’s clients, even seasoned professionals such as David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino, depended on his vast knowledge of the Post Production world in all areas of Editorial, Film, Telecine and International deliveries to insure a top notch final product.

Les Dittert, Chief Technology Officer

Les Dittert brings 28 years of pioneering and award-winning visual effects technical expertise to his role as Chief Technology Officer at Illuminate Hollywood – and a scientist’s passion for “solving impossible problems cost-effectively and with higher quality than ever before.”

Les is known throughout the industry for his innovative software solutions for post production’s most demanding technical challenges: the restoration of our greatest film and television works. Illuminate Hollywood’s clients know that he brings a laser focus to their projects with the shared goal of delivering impeccable results to impress even the most critical connoisseur viewer.

Early on in his career, he was a Digital Composite Supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic where he helped pioneer the field of digital compositing. There, he supervised and composited the first true digital composite film “Back to the Future Part 2″ and he invented the process of wire removal which is still used today. He later served as Digital IO Supervisor and Compositor at Pacific Data Images where he instituted film scanning for handling of effects shots. At that time, PDI was only the second company to have a film scanner. There, he worked with such films as “Terminator 2,” “Batman”, to name a few.

He was known as the “Color Czar” at Dreamworks Animation where he developed color management technology that perfects the way feature films are displayed on television sets.

Les has been honored twice by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 1993, he earned a Scientific and Technical Academy Award for the concept and development of the Digital Motion Picture Retouching System for removing visible rigging and dirt/damage artifacts from original motion picture imagery. In 1994, he won the same award for his development work with area array CCD (charged couple device) film input scanning systems.

Steve Galloway, Senior Vice President, Business Development

Steve Galloway has 25+ years as an award winning producer and programming executive in the television, home entertainment and digital industries with special focus on content acquisitions, licensing and cross media distribution. At illuminate, Steve works closely with the major Hollywood studios, producers and independent distribution companies promoting the company’s proprietary technology solutions which offer content owners the opportunity to bring their high value productions up to the current HD/4K media standards. These innovative conversion processes include: iConform for film and SmartRez for tape originating movies and television series which demand High Definition and digital file deliverables.

Galloway previously served senior executive roles in content acquisitions, licensing & distribution for A&E Home Entertainment, Cinedigm, eOne, Nelvana and Universal Music Group. Steve is a member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA), the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), and the American Film Institute (AFI).

Dan Curry, Filmmaker, Artist, Visual Effects Supervisor/Producer

Dan is a veteran of over 100 feature films and 40 television productions. His visionary work on STAR TREK was honored with 7 Emmy Awards and 15 nominations. Dan served as a visual effects department head at Warner Bros and Paramount Pictures and was Vice President, Director of Creative Services at Cinema Research Corporation. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America, the American Society of Cinematographers, the Producers Guild of America, The Art Directors Guild, the Visual Effects Society, and is a past Governor of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Dan also has experience in directing film, television and live theatre. He has lectured and given presentations on various aspects of filmmaking at universities and symposiums all over the world. Prior to entering the film industry Dan taught at the university level and is a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Community Development in Thailand.

Manuel Garcia, Operations Manager

As the Studio Operations Manager, Manuel Garcia has for the past 11 years played an essential role in executing all HD Vision Broadcast productions to a successful completion. Mr. Garcia is in charge of all of the technical aspects of each production and largely responsible for the continued liaison between HD Vision Broadcast Center and its long standing list of committed clients. He possesses strong planning and organizational skills and supervises the activities of several production crews such as those for camera, lighting, sound, set design and graphics.

Mr. Garcia is the key person in the Broadcast Studio that must liaise closely with all other heads of department to ensure that productions run smoothly, meet deadlines, and stay within budgets. He closely monitors schedules and budgets throughout shoots, deals with any contingencies during pre-production and shooting, and prepares workable alternative plans. His diplomacy has enabled HD Vision Broadcast Center to maintain a consistent pool of professional crew and his resourcefulness and ability to troubleshoot has given HD’s clients the peace of mind that keeps them returning to our professional establishment.
